In Honor of Raul Julia, the Movie Street Fighter (2026) Features Two Clever References to His Legendary Character, M. Bison
--
Tema Manga – The newest Street Fighter movie pays tribute to one of the most memorable performances in the franchise’s cinematic history. The 2026 adaptation, directed by Kitao Sakurai, includes references to Raul Julia’s portrayal of the ruthless villain M. Bison in the 1994 live-action film.
Although the two movies feature different actors in the role, the latest production makes an effort to recognize the legacy left by Julia. One of the references appears through a large painting displayed in the office of the new M. Bison, played by David Dastmalchian.
The artwork resembles the grand portrait featured in the 1994 film, where Bison was depicted with the commanding presence of a historical ruler such as Napoleon Bonaparte. This visual detail reflects the villain’s enormous ego and desire to present himself as a powerful, almost untouchable figure.

It also connects the new interpretation of Bison with the theatrical personality that made Julia’s version so memorable to audiences. The second tribute revisits one of the most recognizable lines from the original adaptation.
In the 1994 movie, Bison dismisses Chun-Li’s personal tragedy by suggesting that the day he destroyed her village was merely an ordinary Tuesday to him. The line became a lasting part of the film’s reputation, largely because of Julia’s chilling delivery.
The 2026 version reworks the idea during another confrontation between Bison and Chun-Li, portrayed by Callina Liang. After defeating her, Bison leaves her with a similarly cruel remark, implying that her impending death is simply another routine day in his life.
