Street Fighter (2026) Faces a Rocky Start on Rotten Tomatoes Despite Its Action-Packed Appeal

--

Tema Manga – The 2026 live-action adaptation of Street Fighter has received a mixed response from film critics, with its initial Rotten Tomatoes score highlighting a number of concerns about the latest attempt to bring Capcom’s legendary fighting game to the big screen.

The movie debuted with a Tomatometer rating of 44% based on 55 critic reviews, after briefly registering an even lower score of 28% when the first reviews began appearing. These figures reflect the state of the ratings at the time of publication and may change as more reviews are added.

One recurring complaint concerns the film’s large ensemble of characters. Although the Street Fighter franchise is known for its diverse roster of fighters, critics have questioned whether the adaptation gives its many personalities enough room to contribute meaningfully to the plot.

With so many figures competing for attention, certain storylines reportedly feel underdeveloped, making the overall narrative difficult to follow. The movie also struggles to maintain a consistent tone. Its combination of martial arts action, dramatic confrontations, and comedy does not always work smoothly.

Some jokes have been criticized for feeling unnatural or interrupting scenes that could otherwise carry greater emotional weight. Despite the negative feedback, the film still offers elements that may appeal to longtime fans. Its combat sequences provide energetic entertainment, while several characters receive memorable moments that capture the spirit of the original games.

For viewers who enjoy colorful action and familiar franchise references, these strengths may help balance out the storytelling problems. The mixed reception demonstrates how difficult it can be to adapt a fighting game into a cohesive cinematic experience.
